Larry Brooks Cline
Larry Brooks Cline
Larry Brooks Cline, 82, of Parkersburg, departed this life on July 1, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, Pappy, and the steady foundation of his family.
Larry was born on July 26, 1943. He was preceded in death (one month to the day) by his high school sweetheart and adoring wife of 64 years, Barbara Ann Cline. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Olive Cline, and six siblings: Mildred Hickman, Diane Harper, Kathryn Hopkins, Charles Cline, Ivan Cline, and Forrest “Rabbit” Cline.
Larry is survived by two siblings, Barbara Cornell and Bill Cline; his sons, David Cline and Thomas Cline; his five grandchildren, Amber Otto (Jason), Brandi Reed (Thomas), Justin Cline, Jeffrey Cline, and Kourtney Bowden (Michael); and his ten great-grandchildren: Bryant Nedeff, Arianna Nedeff, Caleb Reed, Caden Reed, Mason Cline, Raven Cline, Madeline Bowden, Jonathan Bowden, Sophia Bowden, and Clara Bowden. Additionally, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A 1961 graduate of Parkersburg High School, Larry served as editor of the school newspaper and earned the highest scholarship awarded by West Virginia University in recognition of his outstanding talent and achievement. He spent his career in the industrial and mining supply industry working as a salesman and manager for Bearings Inc., Pennsylvania and West Virginia Supply, Ross-Willoughby, and American Producers before retiring in 2006. Throughout his career, Larry worked hard to provide for and to support his family to ensure they were never without what they needed.
Larry’s greatest accomplishments, however, were found at home. He had an incredible gift for building things with his hands and built more than furniture; he built memories. His grandchildren will forever remember the rocking horses, doll beds, and rope swings he crafted. He built beautiful cabinets, desks, and railings, and the most magnificent treehouse that became the setting for countless childhood adventures. He possessed an extraordinary knowledge of nature, knowing every tree by name and catching snakes with his bare hands. He shared his love of the outdoors through fishing and camping trips, walks in the woods, gardening, and berry-picking with his children and grandchildren.
He delighted in life’s simple pleasures, such as making homemade ice cream, watching summer storms from the porch swing surrounded by family, reading bedtime stories, and creating traditions that will continue for generations. Whether solving seemingly unsolvable crossword puzzles, dominating games of Scrabble and Bananagrams, or simply showing up whenever he was needed, Larry approached every moment with dedication, humor, wisdom, and love.
More than anything, Larry will be remembered for always being there. His presence, guidance, and love shaped the lives of his family, who will forever treasure the memories they made together. While the family grieves, they find comfort in knowing he is with Barbara again. He will be forever deeply missed, but will live on in the hearts of his family who love him so very much!
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff on the fifth floor of Camden Clark Medical Center for the compassionate care and dignity they showed Larry during his final days. Their support will always be remembered.
A private family gathering will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Leavitt Funeral Services. Larry’s nephew, Mike Cornell, will officiate.
