Alice Jean “Peggy” Murphy

Alice Jean “Peggy” Murphy, 83, of Ellenboro, WV, departed this life on Friday, November 7, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones at her daughter’s residence in Pennsboro, WV, after a courageous two and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Peggy was born at Five Forks, WV on July 12, 1942, a daughter of the late Paul “Dutch” and Pauline W. (Cox) Mullenix.

She was a proud 1960 graduate of Harrisville High School where she was member of the Gator Band, a representative to Rhododendron Girls State, and was involved in many 4-H activities.

Peggy was also a Methodist by faith and loved singing in the choir where she attended services in Pullman, WV.

After graduation, she attended WV Business College and Glenville State College respectively. She spent the rest of her life dedicated to her field as a Legal Secretary, working for the late Judge Campbell, working for a large law firm in Winchester, VA, and most recently for Rock Wilson at Mountain State Land and Title.

Peggy was always a very strong lady, often telling her family she was “Superwoman” while facing all her battles with courage and dignity. Always a woman who would put everyone else’s needs before her own. She was always a sense of inspiration to her children. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In her later years, she enjoyed such activities as visiting the Wheeling Downs and playing BONCO which she eagerly looked forward to every month, as well as spending time with her family.

Peggy spent two years living with her son, Todd Murphy, when she first began her battle with pancreatic cancer. She was able to live at home for a short while, until she needed more care and was moved in with her daughter, Debbie Davis.

She was preceded in her death by her parents Dutch and Pauline Mullenix, her brother, Denver Mullenix, first and third husband, Michael Murphy, second husband, Richard Eddy, and companion, Jesse Rankin.

Peggy is survived by her loving children, Debra “Debbie” L. Davis and Michael “Todd” Murphy (Robin Ingram) both of Pennsboro; grandson, Jeremy Michael Davis (Lori) of Pennsboro; and great granddaughters, Rilynn Rae Davis, Laityn Lou Davis, and Haidyn Hope Davis. Peggy is also survived by two sisters, Diana Bircher (Mike Still) of Cairo, and Brenda Layfield (Delbert) of Harrisville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV. Visitation will take place from 11am-1pm. Funeral services at 1pm with burial to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, near Pullman, WV.
