Patricia “Pat” Louise Cooke, a beloved and dedicated mother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 1, 2025.
Pat most recently lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Gahanna, Ohio, and previously lived in Marietta and Belpre. She consistently demonstrated kindness and generosity to all who knew her, and her life was filled with love, travel, and commitment to her family.
Pat was a graduate of Belpre High School’s Class of 1965, and went on to study history at The Ohio State University. She remained a dedicated history enthusiast throughout her life, and she enjoyed conversations about political issues, music, antiques, and much more. Pat enjoyed traveling and fondly remembered her trips to Ireland, Italy, France, and Portugal.
Professionally, Pat worked for the Public Employees Retirement System, and often shared stories about the committed friends she made there. Pat’s relationships with family and friends were defined by love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to serve as a source of support for those she cared about.
Pat is survived by her loving daughter, Sarah Cooke, and Sarah’s husband, Eric Kiefer; her sister, Jeanne Legg, and her husband, David; her nephews, Jesse and Jordan Legg; and her cousin, Dottie Rader, who was like a sister to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington McCoy and Eleanor McCoy, as well as her former husband, Kenneth Cooke.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Pat’s life at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home in Marietta, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Rick Stuhmer officiating. A graveside service will take place at New St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marietta, Ohio, at 1:00 pm.
