Sumie Morgan

Sumie Morgan, age 88, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025, at The Wyngate Senior Living Community. She was born August 15, 1936, in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Ken, Japan.

She was preceded in death by her parents Yukiki and Sueko Fukasawa, and her husband of 38 years Robert O. Morgan.

Sumie was a loving wife and mother, and also a military spouse. She lived in California when she first came to the United States of America and became a naturalized citizen in Sacramento. After her husband retired from military service she lived 14 years with her family in Panama where her husband took a civil service job at the Panama Canal Zone. Upon retirement the couple decided to make West Virginia their home and together they built a log house in Rockport.

Sumie loved nature and appreciated the natural beauty of West Virginia, which she considered her home. Her love for flowers began at an early age when she became a student of ikebana and eventually achieved master level certification in the artform.

She is survived by her children Albert Sam Morgan (Dawn) of Clarksville, TN and Ruth Hunter of Del City, OK; three grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sumie had a special relationship with her great-niece Kathy Heflin (Robert) and dear friend Barbara Hite.

A celebration of Sumie’s life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2025 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., South Parkersburg, WV. The service will be officiated by Jay D. Smith, minister at Rockport Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Pond Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Rockport, WV. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 28, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and Friday, 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial House Senior Independent Living, The Wyngate Senior Living Community and Amedisys Hospice Care for their loving care and support.

Everybody who knew her loved her; she will be greatly missed.
