Samuel Madison Hudson IV, “Sammy” or “Sam,” age 25, from Parkersburg, WV, passed away Sunday, March 2nd, 2025. He was an esteemed Sergeant 1st Class most recently serving at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Georgia.

Sam is survived by his loving parents, Sam and Cynthia Hudson; his wonderful wife, Dea Chagas Hudson; his parents-in-law: David and Maria Devericks and M.D. Antonio de Moraes Chagas; his grandmothers, Judy Gumm and Charisse Straight; his sisters, Claire and Cat Hudson; aunts and uncles: Laura and Terry Warren, Stephanie Dudley, Sherri Cowan, and Cindy Hudson; and many loving cousins. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Sam and Dr. Tate Hudson; his Papa, Kenny Gumm; his Grandpa, Charles Straight; his uncles Bill and Walter Hudson; his aunt: Liz Chapman, and his cousin, Jennifer Hudson.

Sam was born in Parkersburg, WV on September 4th, 1999, to Sam and Cynthia Hudson. He earned four Army Achievement Medals, an Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons for his deployments to Poland and Bulgaria, and the Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon. He married the love of his life, his wife, Dea, on December 24th, 2024, after a magical romance.

Sam was a devoted husband and son. He enjoyed his time Stationed in Fort Carson in Colorado Springs where he hiked mountains, kayaked, and began his love of fishing. He made wonderful friends at the places he served who have spoken highly about his strong character and kindness. He had a great green thumb that could grow anything, and he always imagined having a farm one day because of his love of animals.

A viewing is scheduled March 12th, 12-2 p.m., and a funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home. Then, there will be a procession to the Egypt Cemetery at Cairo, WV.
