Jo Ann Kalt

Jo Ann Kalt, 86, formerly of Parkersburg, passed away Aug. 19, 2024, in Herndon, VA. She was born in Wood County, WV on February 6, 1938, a daughter of the late Robert Vaughn Tonge and Eithel (Hull) Tonge. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing Class of 1959. Jo Ann was a Registered Nurse who worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital; Dr Q.S. Santiago; Camden Clark Hospital; and retired from West Virginia Medical Institute. She was a member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church where she was a member of the Prayer Team and Chain; Sisters of Grace Bible Study Small Group; Calling Committee; Mission Team; Deaconess Board and Stephens Ministry. Jo Ann loved water activities such as springboard diving and battling killer waves in the Atlantic Ocean in her younger years, swimming and water aerobics. She enjoyed walking, tennis, dancing, being outdoors in nature, and golfing as a member of Worthington Women’s Golf Association. She was a member of the Family Fitness Center for many years. She was extremely dedicated to God, her family and her community. She was a hard worker, using her compassionate and giving nature to help anyone in need. She excelled at connecting with others and could be relied on during tough times and facilitating fun times!

Jo Ann is survived by two sons, David B. Kalt and Steven C. Kalt (Jackie) both of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Susan D. Kalt Bayliss (Clive) of Herndon, VA; three grandchildren, Krystal R. Kalt Shockey (Kyle) of Boise, ID, Paige N. Kalt Snyder (Kyle) of Morgantown, and Jason C. Bayliss of Herndon, VA; great-grandson, Elijah A. Snyder of Morgantown; sister, Marky Miller of St. Albans, WV; nephew, Jeff Miller of Raleigh, NC; and niece, Jenifer Miller of St. Albans, WV; great niece Jill Miller Schreiber of Raleigh, NC.In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by son, Richard J. Kalt and brother in law Ralph (Bud) Miller of St. Albans, WV. Service will be Thursday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. at North Parkersburg Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Towner officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. Memorial Donations may be made in her name to North Christian School, 3901 Emerson Ave., Parkersburg, WV 26104.
