Dale E. Keith
Dale E. Keith, 90, of Harrisville, WV, departed this life on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, at his residence. He was born Sept. 20, 1932, on Stewarts Run near Harrisville, WV, a son of the late Merryman Dalton and Marvia (Layfield) Keith.
Dale was a proud graduate of Harrisville High School with the class of 1950 where he played football. During high school, Dale began working for the former Hathaway’s Hatchery of Harrisville, WV and worked there off and on for many years. In February 1953, Dale was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War era. He was stationed 16 months overseas in Korea before returning home to Harrisville. Dale also worked on the B&O Railroad before he began a 31-year career at DuPont Washington Works where he worked in Teflon until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1993. Dale cherished the lifelong friendships he made while working at DuPont with his co-workers over the years.
Dale lived a life of service to his community. From shoveling sidewalks and driveways, raking leaves, being a handyman, and driving people to and from appointments, Dale was always there to help. He was a former member of the Harrisville Vol Fire Dept., volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, was active with Relay 4 Life, and was very proud to serve as a porch sitter for Ritchie County 4H camp for many years. Dale was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Harrisville, WV, served on the Thomas Harris Museum Committee, was a member of the RC Historical Society, and was a life member of the Harris-Ritchie VFW #3554.
Dale’s life centered around his family, WVU sports, and Lady Rebel Softball. “Pop” was his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s #1 supporter in whatever activity they participated in. Pop loved keeping score for countless Tball, Little League, and baseball games over the years and he never missed a game. He was a proud season ticket holder for many years of WVU football, following the Mountaineers all over the country to away and bowl games. He cherished the fellowship that he had with his WVU crew as well as his Lady Rebel Softball crew.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Robeyn Deem (Mike) of Harrisville, WV; his grandchildren, Noah Hinzman (Mollie); Kaitlin Hinzman, and Madison Brown (Heath); his great grandchildren, Caylor and Sutton Cupp and Harrison and Hudson Hinzman; sister-in-law, Sue Keith of Harrisville, WV; nephew, JD Keith of Harrisville, and niece, Jennifer Keith (Stephen) of Harrisville, WV.
