Parkersburg Police charge woman in fatal shooting

PARKERSBURG – A Clarksburg woman was arrested after an early morning shooting that left a man dead, Parkersburg Police announced.
Claudia Lynn Torres, 19, of Clarksburg, is in custody at the Wood County Holding Center pending arraignment on a charge of first-degree murder, according to a press release from Parkersburg Police Chief Matthew Board.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:10 a.m. today to a residence in the 1000 block of 40th Street in reference to an adult male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, the release said. Responding officers rendered aid to the victim until Parkersburg firefighters and emergency medical service personnel arrived on scene and continued life-saving measures.
Despite their efforts, the man – whose name has not been released pending notification of his family – succumbed to his injuries at the 40th Street residence, the release said.
Information regarding a possible suspect, Torres, was relayed to officers, as well as Wood County Sheriff’s deputies, the release said. Officers found and detained Torres around 12:19 a.m., approximately one mile from the scene of the shooting.
Investigation revealed Torres and the victim knew each other as friends, the release said. They had been traveling with other mutual friends in a vehicle when Torres and the man got into a verbal argument.
When they arrived at the 40th Street residence, the man went inside, the release said. Torres entered a short time later and allegedly shot the man multiple times while he was seated on a couch, then fled the scene, it said.
