Reedsville man charged with attempted murder

WILLIAMSTOWN — A Reedsville man was charged with attempted murder after an incident early Sunday morning in the parking lot at Go Mart on Highland Avenue, the Williamstown Police Department said.

Christopher William Browning, 36, was accused of attempting to kill two employees at the Go Mart with a vehicle, police said.

Williamstown police officers were dispatched to the Go Mart for a disorderly subject. Browning was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute with a female passenger in his vehicle, police said.

Browning reportedly made threats to kill the two employees before driving a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe in their direction and striking steel poles near the front door of the business near where the employees were standing, police said. The vehicle became stuck on the steel pole and the driver fled on foot, police said.

As Patrolman D.S. Wood arrived, he observed a man fleeing toward the Gold Star Micro Apartment behind Go Mart, police said. Officers from the Williamstown Police Department and deputies from the Wood County Sheriff’s searched the building and found Browning trying to hide in a vacant room, police said,

He was arrested and taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center for medical clearance before being placed in the Division of Corrections, police said. Browning was later arraigned on two counts of attempted murder by Wood County Magistrate Jody Purkey and was being held on $250,000 bond, police said.

He remains incarcerated at the North Central Regional Jail.
