“Symphony of Screams” on Friday

"Symphony of Screams" featuring the Ohio University Symphony will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday at the Resiliency Center in Parkersburg.
The West Virginia Symphony of Parkersburg will host the Ohio University Symphony in a night of musical mischief at 7 p.m. Friday in the first “Symphony of Screams” concert.
Tickets for the concert at the Wood County Resiliency Center on Second Street are $10 per person, free for those under 18. Refreshments, candy and spooky drinks will be available.
Tickets will be available at the door or online at wvsop.org.
From playful poltergeists to thunderous timpani, the OU student orchestra will conjure a delightfully eerie soundscape perfect for kids, grown-ups, and anyone who loves a little musical mischief. It’s the scariest music on this side of the strings.
Ohio University musicians will dress in their favorite costumes and encourage audience participation. The West Virginia Symphony chose the Resiliency Center for the “Symphony of Screams” to bring an evening performance to downtown Parkersburg and encourage new concertgoers.
“We want to invite people who have never experienced symphonic music to come enjoy a fun concert that will get them hooked on this great art form,” Becky McGinnis, chair of the WV Symphony Parkersburg board of directors. “The program is filled with classical music that will please even the most ardent classical music fan.”
The concert is organized by Priscilla Leavitt and a group of West Virginia Symphony.
“Anyone who comes dressed in a costume of any sort will be entered to win some drawings,” Leavitt said. “There are a few other fun surprises and extra special happenings too. Very Important Ghost designated seating is available for $25.”
The next West Virginia Symphony of Parkersburg concert will be with the WV Symphony Orchestra and the traditional “Sounds of the Season.” Visit wvsop.org for more information about all the 25-26 season’s offerings and learn how you can purchase the gift of music for the holidays.
