Morrisey announces substance abuse grants for local groups

PARKERSBURG — Two organizations in Wood County have received grants through the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant and Substance Use Site-based Program, the governor announced Tuesday.

Grants financing eight projects statewide were announced totalling $1,362,795.The money will help organizations in community asset mapping and gap analyses in the target counties, identifying key stakeholders and partners, while increasing referrals to Substance Use Disorder treatment through Quick Response Team and Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Expansion as a pre- or post-arrest treatment alternative and diversion for individuals at high risk for overdose or substance use, according to Gov. Patrick Morrisey.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Fellowship Home will receive $59,886 for community-based services for people with substance use disorder who are on probation, parole or supervised release to reduce recidivism and advance rehabilitative services.

Westbrook Health Services will receive $272,768 to fund a regional LEAD program director and peer recovery support specialists who will provide recovery coaching while expanding all coverage and outreach and strengthening training for law enforcement partners.

“I am pleased to award these critical funds to organizations across the state helping West Virginians battle addiction,” Morrisey said. “Recently, our state has seen a reduction in drug overdose deaths, and these organizations deserve a lot of credit for the work they are doing in their communities. But the work is not finished – we will continue fighting until we can end this epidemic in West Virginia.”

The funds are through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and are administered by the Justice and Community Services Section of the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services.

Also receiving grants were FRMS Health Systems Inc., Marshall University Research Corp.,

Rea of Hope Fellowship Home, Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center, Valley Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center and West Virginia Sober Living.
