BELPRE — Belpre City Council approved several motions at its regular meeting Monday evening.
Council approved the second and third readings of an ordinance for supplemental budget appropriations.
Council also approved the second readings of ordinances extending the moratorium on new substance counseling services for another year and changing the lot yard and height requirements in commercial and manufacturing zones. The final readings will take place at a future council meeting.
Council approved the final reading of an ordinance changing council’s meeting time from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The change will go into effect at council’s first meeting in September.
In her report to council, Mayor Susan Abdella said over the past couple of weeks, the city has been interviewing several candidates for the code enforcement position, including many good ones.
The city had an electrician in to discuss the generator for the well head. The project total will be $110,000 and the city received $50,000 towards the project. The remainder will come from the water fund. This will put wells 1-2-3 on emergency power.
“We are waiting on the surveyor to give us the proper elevations so the generator will be out of the flood plain,” Abdella said.
Source water signage is being created locally and will be placed in the parks to help educate the community as to why the city limits activities and parking on the grass, she said.
The shelter farthest away from Blennerhasett Avenue will be removed before the end of August to allow the building of the new All Inclusive Playground. The city is working with a builder to construct a new, smaller shelter and another will be added in the spring, she said.
With all the heavy rains over the past few weeks, the city has been experiencing some extensive storm water issues. Abdella said it has been determined that a public meeting related to storm water needs to occur so some planning can be done. She is hoping to get everyone’s schedules coordinated by the end of August.
The Belpre Homecoming Festival will be Thursday through Sunday at Civitan Park.
