Memorial Health Systems places vistor restrictions

MARIETTA — Visitor restrictions have been put in place at all Memorial Health Systems facilities because of a surge in patients with respiratory illnesses, the the health care system announced Tuesday.

The restrictions are two visitors per patient, visitors must be 18 or older and show no signs of illness and all minors must be accompanied by an adult, Memorial Health said.

Exceptions may be permitted for:

* 3 West (sibling visitation) and end of life care

* Masks are encouraged but not required

• Additional restrictions may apply to specialized units and specific illnesses.

Visitor restrictions currently are not in place at WVU Medicine Camden Clark.

Memorial Health System operates Marietta Memorial, Selby General and Sisterville General hospitals and facilities in Belpre, Athens and Marietta.

Memorial Health also issued tips to help prevent contracting or spreading respiratory illnesses. They are to wash hands with soap and water and lather for at least 20 seconds, or if water is unavailable use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Also:

* Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth

* Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and dispose of the tissue in the nearest waste receptacle after use

* Avoid contact with sick individuals

* Social distance when possible

* Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched, such as your mobile phone

* Stay home if sick, unless seeking medical attention
