Two injured in pickup, motorcycle collision

PARKERSBURG — Two people were injured Monday afternoon in Parkersburg involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle.

Parkersburg Police officers were dispatched at approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday to the intersection of 29th and Birch streets, according to a press release from the Parkersburg Police Department.

The initial investigation revealed that the pickup truck was traveling east on 29th Street and the motorcycle, which had a driver and passenger on board, was traveling south on Birch Street.

As a result of the collision, both occupants of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and were transported to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center for medical treatment. The press release identified them as Cameron Matheny, 22, Parkersburg, the driver, and Ashton Melrose, 23, Mineral Wells, on a 2016 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle.

The release said Matheny was ultimately flown by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for further treatment. Melrose was admitted to CCMC.

Cameron Stover, 33, Marietta, the driver of the 2023 Ford F-150, was uninjured in the crash, the release said.

As a result of the seriousness of the injuries involved, members of the Wood County Crash Team responded to the accident, which is currently still under investigation.
