Sheriff’s Office: Attempted murder suspect apprehended
Charles Clinton Hess IV
PARKERSBURG — A man accused of assaulting his mother with a knife and later setting their house on fire was arrested Tuesday evening.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page that Charles Clinton Hess IV, 23, was taken into custody around 8 p.m. in the area of Buckner Bend Road in the southeastern part of the county. The post said more details would be released later.
Hess was being sought by deputies after a report of a domestic incident Sunday morning in which a woman was stabbed in the head. Hess’ mother suffered non-life-threatening wounds and a warrant was obtained for Hess on a charge of attempted murder.
Wood County 911 was notified early Monday morning of a structure fire at the Buckner Bend Road residence, which was deemed a total loss. No one was home at the time of the fire, and the sheriff’s office said in a release that Hess was believed to have been “a contributing factor” to the fire.
