Boyd attempted murder trial set to begin March 1
PARKERSBURG — A Winfield, W.Va., man is scheduled to go to trial in March for attempted murder in Wood County Circuit Court.
Brandon Xavier Boyd, 35, 3 Painters Road, will stand trial March 1 before Judge Robert Waters, according to court records. The trial was previously scheduled for December and was moved.
According to the criminal complaint, Parkersburg Police were assigned to investigate the stabbing of Daniel Bivens on Jan 16, 2021. Bivens was at Camden Clark Medical Center receiving treatment for two large lacerations across his neck and throat.
Medical personnel at the hospital told police Bivens had severe injuries and would need to be sedated and placed in the ICU, but was expected to recover. The medical personnel said Bivens was cut by a sharp edged or blade object similar to a knife. The injury came within a millimeter of severing the carotid artery.
The criminal complaint indicated Boyd was named as a suspect after Bivens was able to give a statement.
Bivens said the two were in Boyd’s car in the parking lot of CVS on Murdoch Avenue. At one point, Boyd grabbed Bivens while he was attempting to leave the car. Bivens said he saw a knife or knife-like object in Boyd’s hand.
Bivens then felt “a coolness on his chest” and looked down to see he was covered in blood, according to the criminal complaint.
Boyd was located and told police he had been in an altercation with Bivens. Boyd was soon arrested.
Pre-trial motions will be due by Feb. 14.
