West Virginia reports 13 new COVID-19 deaths
CHARLESTON –Another 13 deaths because of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in the 24-hour period between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources said on Thursday.
The state confirmed the deaths of residents from Morgan, Marshall, Harrison, Berkeley, Putnam, Barbour, Grant and Pendleton counties. The youngest was a 49-year-old woman from Berkeley County.
The death toll in West Virginia since the pandemic began was at 2,735 on Thursday.
Active cases of the virus in West Virginia were reported at 6,981, up from 6,897, on Wednesday. New cases in the 24-hour period from Wednesday to Thursday mornings were 446, which followed 364 from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Active cases have been increasing since March 12.

Hospitalizations are at 267, down from 271 people on Wednesday, with 89, up from 84, in an intensive care unit and 16, down one, on ventilators.
The state has fully vaccinated 369,896 people.
The number of residents fully vaccinated and percentage of population for local counties: Calhoun, 1,169, 16.4; Doddridge, 2,396, 28.4; Gilmer, 1,414, 18.1; Jackson, 4,502, 15.8; Pleasants, 1,651, 22.1; Ritchie, 1,865, 19.5; Roane, 2,761, 20.2; Tyler, 1,606, 18.7; Wetzel, 3,596, 23.9; Wirt, 1,086, 18.7; Wood, 13,515, 16.2.
All West Virginians 16 and older can register for a COVID-19 vaccine through the Vaccine Registration System at www.vaccinate.wv.gov.
Vaccination clinics are scheduled in the region this week.
