Doddridge leads local counties in vaccinations

CHARLESTON — Doddridge County leads local counties in the rate of people fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 coronavirus, according to the latest statistics Monday from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

In Doddridge, 24.1 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated, or 2,039 people, the state said. The population of Doddridge County is 8,448. Lowest in the region based on percentage of population is Wood County, where 11.9 percent of the 83,518 residents have been fully vaccinated.

Doddridge has the third highest rate of full vaccinated in the state. Tucker and Pocahontas counties, at 31.4 percent and 24.6 percent, respectively, are one and two.

The smalles percentages are in Jefferson and Berkeley counties at 6.8 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively. The population in the growing county of Berkeley is 119,171.

The state has fullly vaccinated 308,504 people. Residents 16 and older can register for a vaccination at vaccinate.wv.gov or call 1-833-734-0965 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

The department in its Monday morning pandemic update reported 6,252 active cases, up from 6,128 cases on Sunday morning. Another 378 new cases were reported on Monday while 297 new cases were reported on Sunday morning.

Active cases, while far below the January peak of 29,257, have been trending upward since the first of March.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department is partnering with WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center, Coplin Health Systems, Ritchie Regional Health Center and the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley for COVID-19 vaccination clinics throughout the area.

Individuals can schedule appointments online at uwamov.com/covid. Those without Internet access can schedule an appointment by calling 304-420-1449. If it’s answered by voicemail, a person should leave a name, date of birth and phone number.

A second dose, or boost, clinic is planned for Friday at South Parkersburg Baptist Church for those that received their first dose on March 3, 5 or 6. Health Department personnel are calling to schedule the shots, but anyone needing that boost who does not receive a call is asked to contact 304-420-1449.
