PARKERSBURG — The heavy snowfall on the East Coast has made it difficult for drivers in Wood and Washington counties as roads were not only filled with snow, but ice on the road as well due to wet conditions causing minor accidents late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

According to the Wood County Dispatch Center, there was a semi-truck that jackknifed on the Blennerhassett Bridge that blocked two lanes for about 10-15 minutes before a tow truck arrived.

Traffic was slowed down but continued to move using the remaining three lanes on the bridge.

Two accidents took place on W.Va. 31 in Williamstown and an accident on Interstate 77 outside Williamstown. There was also one accident north of Vienna and an accident in Rockport.

In Washington County, two separate accidents involving vehicles hitting a telephone pole occurred Tuesday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

One occurred on Watertown Road off Davis Road and the second one happened on Hickory Drive and Schoolhouse Road in Little Hocking north of Belpre. Both were single-vehicle accidents.

A Washington County truck went over a hill in Ohio 555 near Welch Road in Decatur Township, officials reported.

A vehicle struck a guardrail at Joe Skinner Road in Belpre and some vehicles were stuck on the highways, but there wasn’t any damage to the cars nor injuries, said the highway patrol reported.

An overnight snow greeted residents in the region Tuesday morning, including atop school buses at the Warren Local Schools. Sunny skies are expected today, the National Weather Service in Charleston said. (Photo by Art Smith)
