PARKERSBURG — The COVID-19 coronavirus specimen collection drive-through site at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center effective Monday will move from the South Tower location to the hospital’s Health and Wellness Center at 2804 Birch St., behind the Park Shopping Center, the hospital announced.

The new site location will be operational beginning at 10 a.m. and will provide services from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week.

The testing location is only for individuals who have a physician’s order. Patients who do not have a physician’s order will not be seen, according to the hospital. Only patients 15 and older are eligible for specimen collection.

The collection of specimens will be reserved for people who meet screening criteria based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations and have symptoms consistent with COVID-19: fever, cough and shortness of breath. People who have no obvious COVID-19 symptoms will not be tested.

“This will ensure only the highest-risk patients are identified and receive the appropriate medical intervention,” the hospital said. “The screening will not test for seasonal flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) or any other respiratory illness.”

The specimen collection is done with a swab. The testing of the specimens will be done by Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp. Results typically are available in three to four days, depending on the volume of tests to be performed.

The site was opened earlier this week and is among five opened by WVU Medicine in West Virginia.

The others are at Ruby Memorial in Morgantown, United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling and Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg.
