Historical group plans walking tour
ATHENS, Ohio – The Athens County Historical Society has activities planned during October, including a walking tour.
The Athens County Historical Society and Museum is hosting Archaeology Month at 5 p.m. each Thursday through October at the museum at 65 North Court St.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Upcoming speakers will include Josh McConaughy, associate director of the Archaeological Conservancy in the Midwest, and Jarrod Burks, of Ohio Valley Archaeology Inc.
The next Walking Tour of the Historic Athens Asylum will be 4-6 p.m. Oct. 18. Tickets are $15 and spaces are limited. Participants will begin at the Kenney Museum of Art at Ohio University and tour the famous Athens Asylum.
George Eberts, a longtime Asylum employee and local expert on the Athens Asylum, will be leading an outdoor walking tour of the grounds and buildings.
