West Virginia reports 46 new COVID deaths

CHARLESTON — Forty-six more people between Thursday and Friday have died from the COVID-19 virus in West Virginia, the Department of Health and Human Resources reported on Friday. The death toll since the pandemic began is 5,743 as of Friday. The confirmations include an 86-year-old man from Jackson County and a 61-year-old man from Wood County, the state said. Deaths also were confirmed in Berkeley, Raleigh, Mercer, Taylor, Monongalia, Monroe, Cabell and Brooke counties. CHARLESON — The state of West Virginia on Friday eclipsed the record of COVID-19 hospitalizations it set just two days prior, Gov. Jim Justice said. Hospitalizations of unvaccinated COVID patients continue to rise in West Virginia

CHARLESTON — Hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients in West Virginia continue to rise with 1,080 patients in the hospital as of Thursday morning, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources. The department Thursday also reported five pediatric patients with COVID-19 are on a ventilator. Fourteen pediatric patients are in a hospital and four are in an intensive care unit, according to the department. CHARLESTON — Unvaccinated residents remain the majority of COVID-19 patients in West Virginia hospitals, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources on Wednesday. The department reported 1,043 patients are in a hospital with COVID-19, which surpassed the previous record of 1,012 on Sept. 24. More than 68%, 712 patients, are unvaccinated, the state said.
