PARKERSBURG — Trinity Episcopal Church will celebrate Christmas Eve with two services.
The late service at 10:30 p.m. is a traditional Anglican service with choir, organ and additional instruments with a musical prelude, followed by the Festival Midnight Mass at 11 p.m.
The musical prelude, under the direction of Marie Mallory, organist and director of music at Trinity, will contain choral selections including: “Of the Father’s Love Begotten” by Larry Shackley, “Spotless Rose” by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, “A Babe is Born in Bethlehem” by Justin Thomas Fields, the Bohemian carol “Let our Gladness Know no End” arranged by Dan Thomas, John Rutter’s “Christmas Night,” “For Him All Stars Have Shone” by Bob Chilcott; and Douglas Byler’s “O Nata Lux.”
Guest organist and pianist will be Jane Irvine with additional piano accompaniment by Nathan Thornton and conducted by Noah Griffith, both Trinity choral scholars.
The Festival Eucharist (Communion) service, led by the Rector Fr. Geoffrey Mackey will begin with a candle lighting and the singing of “Silent Night.” Then the lamps are lit for the traditional processional “O Come, All Ye Faithful.”
The service will continue with carols and scripture readings. The choir will present the offertory anthem, “Fum, Fum, Fum” as arranged by Terry D. Taylor. All baptized Christians may partake of communion in the Episcopal Church.
The early Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. also will be a festive Eucharist beginning with the traditional Blessing of the crèche. On Christmas morning at 9 a.m., a Eucharist using traditional Carolinian language will be held.
