Mid-Ohio Valley communities schedule Veterans Day observances

PARKERSBURG — Veterans Day will be observed in Vienna, Marietta and Parkersburg.

* In Marietta, a parade will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fourth and Hart streets, with lineup beginning at 9 a.m. The parade will make its way on Fourth to Putnam to Front where it will conclude at the Armory on Front Street, with a ceremony to follow. There will then be a luncheon for veterans and their families at VFW Post 5108 at 319 Pike St. in Marietta, organizers said.

* The parade in Parkersburg will be from the horseshoe at Parkersburg High School and will take Washington Avenue beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, ending at Memorial Plaza in City Park.

The parade marshal will be Vernon Dellinger, a 104-year-old veteran of World War II. A ceremony will be held following the parade with guest speaker Dr. Caleb Perkins. A proclamation by Parkersburg Mayor Tom Joyce will be read by a representative of his office. Various participating veterans organizations are scheduled to hold open houses following the parade and ceremony, organizers said.

* The Vienna Veterans Day observance will begin at noon Tuesday at Spencer’s Landing at the Gold Star Memorial.

* At West Virginia University at Parkersburg, the WVUP Veteran Resource Center will place flags on veterans’ graves in the Poorhouse Cemetery on the college’s campus.
