MARIETTA – People enjoyed the spooky season for just a bit longer this past weekend at the third annual Marietta Monster Mash at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

The vendor show, held in the Junior Fair Building Saturday and Sunday, is horror and Christmas themed with a number of sellers as well as celebrity guests including Butch Patrick who played Eddie Munster in the classic TV show “The Munsters,” Rebekah Kennedy (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “V/H/S Halloween”), Sean Whalen (“The People Under the Stairs” and “Twister”) and Powers of Pain (Wrestling), among others.

“We are here to support the community and one another,” organizer Andy Alvarez of Andy’s Toy Chest, one of the event sponsors, said. “I hope everyone enjoys themselves and comes back.”

Vendors had a variety of items for sale, including horror movie tie-ins, T-shirts, collectible figures, pop culture related items, tarot card related merchandise and more. They were local vendors and from outside the area.

Nichole Alvarez, an event organizer, said the event is about people enjoying themselves.

“We just want them to come out and have fun,” she said. “We want them to see the vendors and see some things they have never seen before, meet some celebrities and have some fun.”

Max Rosenbaum and Sarah Sink are involved with the Valley Vapory and Uncommon Marketplace MOV, which opened a store near Giant Eagle in Marietta. Sink described it as a “uncommon oddities store.”

Both of them came to see all the different items that were available.

“If you like the oddity stuff, it is the right place to be,” Rosenbaum said. “There is a lot of weird stuff and you just get to live life being a part of it.”

Sink said they wanted to see what was available in the area.

“We wanted to see what was happening in the local community,” she said. “We wanted to see what people are looking for here and what we have there.”

With times being the way they are and with the economy the way it is, people are balancing the necessities with other things they want, Sink said. She was also looking for possible vendors to feature at their store.

“People are still happy,” Sink, looking around, said.

A group of Star Wars cos-players were at the event posing for pictures with attendees and distributing information about their organizations, the Rebel Legion and the 501st Legion. Both legions are international organizations that raise money and support charity organizations.

“We try to provide as much local support as we can to the community,” said Anthony Wilson, who was dressed as an X-Wing pilot.

“This gives us a chance to be out in front of the public,” he said.

Both groups had 10 people at the event, Wilson said.

Kennedy said this was the first time she and Whalen had visited the area and noted how nice people were.

“It has been lovely and everyone has been so kind,” she said.

They both commented about eating at a Texas Roadhouse for the first time with Whalen speaking highly of the bread rolls.

Vendor Valorie Graham of Crafting Chaos of Williamstown said they saw a good crowd on Saturday with fewer people on Sunday, but still enthusiastic.

“People were just out looking,” she said. “If they see something that catches their eye for a family member since it is close to the holidays they will pick it up.

“It is a one-stop shop to get their Christmas shopping done and they have a blast meeting some awesome people.”
