PARKERSBURG — The Actors Guild of Parkersburg will open its production of “Annie” tonight at 7:30 p.m., bringing one of Broadway’s most beloved family musicals to the local stage for three weekends through Nov. 23.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22, with matinee shows at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 9, 16, and 23. Tickets can be purchased online at actors-guild.com or at the box office beginning one hour before each show.
Set in 1933 New York City during the Great Depression, Annie follows a hopeful young orphan searching for her family who finds an unexpected home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks. The production features classic songs such as “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard-Knock Life,” delivering a timeless message of optimism and resilience.
“‘Annie’ is a show that reminds us that even through hardship, community and compassion can change lives,” Director David Rexroad said in a release. “We are incredibly proud of this cast and creative team, and we can’t wait to share this heartwarming story with our community during the holiday season.”
In keeping with that spirit, the Guild is partnering with Toys for Tots to collect new, unwrapped toys before each performance. Audience members are encouraged to bring donations to help brighten the holidays for local children in need.
