PARKERSBURG — An opening reception will be held Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the Parkersburg Art Center for “Anything Goes: Wild Things,” the All-Member Exhibition of the West Virginia Watercolor Society.

Since 1984, the West Virginia Watercolor Society has supported artists across the state, promoting high standards in watercolor, encouraging emerging painters, and helping the public appreciate the versatility of the medium.

The biennial All-Member Exhibition brings together works by artists of all levels and styles. Each member was able to submit up to three pieces, resulting in a broad and diverse collection. This year’s theme, “Anything Goes: Wild Things,” invites artists to interpret “wild” in their own way, whether inspired by wildlife, bold color, imaginative subjects, or untamed ideas.

The exhibition will be judged for awards by Joel Dugan, artist and professor at Fairmont State University.

Among the featured artists is Debbie Lester, a long-time member of the Beckley Art Group and a juried member of Tamarack. She will have a special collection of her work presented in the Pam Tanner Boll Gallery at the PAC. Lester has been painting for more than 40 years and has taught watercolor at both the Beckley Art Center and Cedar Lakes Conference Center.

“I’ve been an artist most of my life,” Lester said. “I remember drawing as a child. I’ve been painting for 42 years. I will be painting until I can no longer hold a paintbrush.”

Lester finds much of her inspiration close to home.

“I love to paint the beautiful landscapes of West Virginia. I think West Virginia is a beautiful state. I also grow lots of flowers that I paint. I’ve done portraits, too. I love to paint lots of subject matter.”

The exhibit and the collection from Lester will be on view from Nov. 15 through Dec. 20.

During the free opening reception, The Market, the artist market and gift shop at the PAC, will also be open with discounts on sweatshirts and hoodies Saturday only.

The public is invited to attend the opening reception, meet the artists, enjoy light snacks and a cash bar. There is no cost to attend this opening reception and the exhibition is free during regular hours from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday due to support of WVU Medicine Camden Clark.
