MARIETTA — Two members of the Washington County Bullseye Shooting Sports 4-H Club attended the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championship at Grand Island, Neb.
McKensie Mason of Marietta and Levi Reynolds of Fleming were selected for the Ohio 4-H Air Pistol team.
While participating in the National Championship, air pistol members had three different shooting positions that they shot over a period of three days. They competed in rapid fire, slow fire, and silhouettes. Team Air Pistol Ohio broke two state records for rapid fire and slow fire.
Mason and Reynolds tied the state record for silhouettes. The silhouette score was tied with a score of 60 with the 2017 team.
The previous rapid fire score was 752 held by the 2024 air pistol team. The team shattered that record with a 903. The slow fire previous record of 929 was set back in 2018 and the team scored 964.

The National Championship is held every June and consists of nine disciplines: air rifle, air pistol, muzzleloader, shotgun, hunting skills, compound archery, recurve archery, small bore pistol, and small bore rifle. Participating were 740 competitors from 40 states, from which the state of Ohio placed ninth overall.
Several state records in multiple disciplines were broken while in Nebraska.
The Ohio team was made up of four members from around the state, Mason and Reynolds from Washington County and Sam Queen from Clermont County and Christy Headings from Union County. The coach is Damian Dorsten.
The team meets once a month for practice at the Delaware Wildlife Refuge Shooting Range in Ashley. Practices began in September of the year prior to going to the nationals.
Members also competed in competitions throughout the state, including the 2025 Buckeye Open held at Ohio State University where they competed against many top-ranked air pistol shooters, including Olympic shooters.
