Eudora Welty program set for Southeast Ohio History Center Lyceum Luncheon

ATHENS, Ohio — The Lyceum Luncheon Brown Bag Speaker Series presents a program called “Eudora Welty – And her Appalachian Ohio Roots” by Jack Wright on July 17 at noon at the Southeast Ohio History Center.
Wright, retired from the Ohio University School of Film, has explored and championed Appalachian life through music, theatre, film, writing and activism for nearly a half century.
A WPA (Works Progress Administration) photographer and Pulitzer Prize winning author from Jackson, Miss., Eudor Welty has roots and connections in Southeast Ohio that she felt made all of the difference in the success of her long career. Winner of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the French Legion of Honor and the Pulitzer Prize, Welty credits some of her associations and relations in Southeast Ohio for her literary achievements.
The History Center’s Lyceum Speaker Series is a brown bag luncheon scheduled for the third Thursdays of the month at 24 West State Street in Athens.
Due to ongoing construction projects at the History Center, parking is very limited, and visitors should come early to find accommodations for their vehicle which may be a block or more from the History Center.
