Around the Race Course: Phelps-Tavenner House – Mile 9.5

The Phelps-Tavenner House is the oldest brick house in Wood County.
Roughly mile 9.5 provides runners and walkers with a glimpse of the Phelps-Tavenner House, which is the oldest brick house in Wood County. Built around 1800, this house has served as a make-shift courthouse, the home of two different families the Phelps and the Tavenners – and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Both families held prominent positions within the community. The house was bought in 2015 by the Wood County Historical and Preservation Society. Don’t forget to catch a glimpse of our history when going down Camden Avenue. The News and Sentinel Half Marathon and Two-Mile Race will be held Aug. 16.
