BOAZ — Henderson Hall is reviving its Civil War reenactment Saturday after several years of the reenactment’s absence.
Board Member and organizer of the event Logan Saho said the pandemic, lack of participation and no host were some of the reasons the event stopped.
Saho noted they’ve brought the reenactment back to promote history and allow guests of Henderson Hall to take a step back into history.
“We try to bring it back to life so people can see history,” he said.
Saho noted they have 50 to 60 reenactors signed up for the event so far, but he said more people tend to register the day of the event. Saho is hoping for numbers anywhere from 75 to 80 reenactors for Saturday’s event.

Henderson Hall will have public hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. the day of the event. Museums of Mid-Ohio Valley – which oversees Henderson Hall, the West Virginia Oil and Gas Museum and Burning Springs – will have an artillery demonstration in a nearby field at 11 a.m. before the reenactment. There will also be a foot soldier demonstration at 11:30 a.m. near the reenactors encampments. At noon, Henderson Hall will host a “Civil War Tea,” which is open to the public, on the front lawn.
At 2 p.m., the “battle” will play out. The battle is described as a “fictionalized telling of an engagement that could have happened,” in a press release sent by Museums of MOV. According to the press release, the battle is an effect of a Confederate unit looking for supplies behind enemy lines at Henderson Hall where a Union unit is lying in wait for any Confederate units trying to cross the Ohio River.
After the battle reenactment, there will be a Civil War encampment cooking demonstration from 3 to 5:30 p.m. From 8 to 10 p.m., there will be a reenactors Civil War ball in the main tent on the front lawn. This event is open to the public until 9 p.m. The press release recommends that attendees “dress up in your purdies” or “dress in your finest.”
On Sunday, there will be another artillery demonstration at 11 a.m. and a cavalry demonstration at 11:30 a.m. The second part of the battle will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The camp closes after the battle at 3 p.m.
