COVID cases unchanged; Pleasants, Ritchie still yellow

CHARLESTON — Pleasants and Ritchie counties were yellow on the County Alert System Map in West Virginia, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources’ Tuesday morning pandemic update.

The map rates counties in terms of infection rate and percent positivity and is based on the lower of the two measurements in five levels, green for the lowest and red for the highest.

Seven counties in the state are yellow, Pleasants, Ritchie, which turned yellow on Tuesday, Brooke, Mineral, Pendleton, Clay and Mingo. All other counties in the state are green.

The measurement for infection rate is in the yellow zone in Doddridge, Gilmer, Roane and Wirt counties. The measurement for percent positivity is in the red in Pleasants County.

Pleasants County is the only county with a measurement in the red.

The number of statewide active COVID-19 coronavirus cases remained unchanged from Monday to Tuesday mornings, according to the department.

The state Tuesday morning reported 665 active cases with 228 new positive cases received in the 24-hour period between the Monday and Tuesday pandemic reports.

Active cases in local counties on Tuesday (previous report) were: Calhoun, 2 (3); Doddridge, 3 (2); Gilmer, 3 (0); Jackson, 6 (6); Pleasants, 6 (3); Ritchie, 7 (2); Roane, 6 (4); Tyler, 2 (2); Wetzel, 9 (10); Wirt, 1 (0); Wood, 19 (17).

The state reported 147 patients are in a hospital with 21 in an intensive care unit and five on a ventilator. Four pediatric patients were reported.

No deaths reported over the 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday mornings. The death count remained at 7,557 residents of West Virginia.
