RIPLEY — A new executive director of the Jackson County Development Authority has been announced by the board of directors.
Veronica Lewis will succeed long-time director Mark Whitley, who is retiring.
“This role allows me to work with local businesses, government agencies and community organizations to promote Jackson County’s economic vitality,” Lewis said. “I look forward to fostering sustainable growth, leading initiatives to attract new businesses, supporting existing industries and helping Jackson County continue to grow.”
Lewis was director of Government and Community Relations for the West Virginia Water Development Authority, where she collaborated with communities and economic development authorities to identify funding strategies that advanced site readiness and improved infrastructure throughout West Virginia.
Her initial priorities will include individually meeting with community leaders, establishing regular communications with local, state and federal partners and launching outreach initiatives to identify and address economic development opportunities for Jackson County.
“Veronica is a welcome addition to our team. I am confident that her experience, talents and strategic thinking will help lead us forward,” Rick Anderson, president of the board of directors, said. “With over a decade of experience in state leadership, she will now oversee Jackson County’s business recruitment, retention, expansion, property management and business support efforts.”
Lewis also cited the legacy left by Whitley, a former development director in Parkersburg, in Jackson County.
“Mark’s steady guidance and commitment to economic growth have positioned Jackson County for long-term success,” she said. “I look forward to learning more about the projects he has put into motion before his retirement, and I am excited to work with the Board of Directors of the Jackson County Development Authority to build on that strong foundation and continue advancing new opportunities for our community.”
In addition to her service with the West Virginia Water Development Authority and the West Virginia Legislature, she is active in state and local boards including the West Virginia Economic Development Council and the WVU Medicine Jackson General Hospital Board of Directors.
