MARIETTA — The Washington County Career Center – Adult Technical Training has announced the hiring of Melanie Matheny as the new Practical Nursing Program Administrator.

With 16 years of experience as a nurse and six years in nursing education, Matheny brings a strong combination of clinical expertise and instructional leadership to her new role. She will oversee daily instruction, guide students academically and professionally, coordinate clinical placements, and ensure the program continues to meet the standards set by the Ohio Board of Nursing. She will also serve as the primary point of contact for both students and faculty in the program.

“Melanie brings a wealth of experience and a true passion for education,” said Erica Chidester, Medical Programs Manager. “Her ability to connect with students, stay organized, and support both academic and clinical growth will make her an incredible asset to our team.”

Matheny shared her enthusiasm for the new role:

“My vision is to inspire and lead novice individuals through a nursing program that prioritizes excellence in education and compassionate care. I aim to equip our students with the critical thinking and practical skills necessary to excel in diverse healthcare settings. Together, we’ll cultivate a community of lifelong learners dedicated to making a positive impact.”

In addition to her professional experience, Matheny is actively involved in her community as the Secretary and Treasurer of the SmokeEaters Auxiliary (supporting the Belpre Volunteer Fire Department) and serves as a foster parent.

Matheny and her husband Bill enjoy reading, swimming, and traveling, with recent adventures to Mexico and Alaska. They’ve been married for 13 years and have three children: Abigail Loredo (husband Marcos and grandson Tomas), Mason Matheny, and Ethan McAtee.
