WASHINGTON, W.Va. — The new owner of the Delrin business out of the Washington Works plant is looking toward the future after acquiring the business from DuPont in a $1.8 billion sale last summer.
Dupont announced the sale of 80.1% of its Delrin acetal homopolymer business to The Jordan Co. in August. Acetal homopolymer is a thermoplastic material designed to resist hydrocarbons, solvents and neutral chemicals.
The release stated DuPont would own a 19.9% non-controlling common equity interest in the Delrin business. At the sale’s closing, DuPont received pre-tax cash proceeds of approximately $1.25 billion, subject to customary transaction adjustments and a note receivable of $350 million.
Delrin Plant Manager Greg Westbrook said the acquisition was finalized on Nov. 1. He said the company has a long-term presence in the area.
“Delrin is in its 65th year operating out of the Washington Works plant, and we continue to be a proud member of the Parkersburg community,” he said,
Westbrook said Washington Works will play a role in the business’s expansion.
“Regarding our plans for the future, Delrin is planning for growth into new markets and new countries — and it will be up to us here in West Virginia, along with our global manufacturing partners in Europe and Asia, to supply and support our planned growth,” he said.
