… in the country, that is. Been out in the rural areas, small towns and the country as of late, riding the bike. Harley, that is. Love it. Country is anywhere you can find it. I much prefer the mountains to the east. Pocahontas and Pendleton counties in West Virginia, and Bath and Highland counties in Virginia. Long mountain valleys, good road surfaces, little traffic.
After innumerable trips over several years, one gets sort of a feel for places and people. Upon reflection, lyrics from one of Don Henley's songs comes to mind. He sings "You see a lot of meanness in the city, the kind that eats you up inside. Hard to come away with anything that feels like dignity."
Not in any way saying that there are no mighty fine and good folks in the big cities, but overall the difference in attitudes and treatments cannot be denied. Seems a great deal easier to converse with most country folks.
Don't seem to be in such a great hurry. Mighty friendly and in most cases appear to really care about what an unfamiliar person might have to say. Will stop and talk without seeming to have to be somewhere else yesterday.
For the most part, it's mighty easy to like them. Hard working folks and as I travel around it becomes clear that a very real sense of pride in land and home is easy to conclude.
Another thing cannot be overlooked. They really have a love of country and an appreciation of the blessings that the creator God has abundantly made available to all of us.
Overall: Trump supporters. Go figure. Just sayin'.
My advice, for what it may be worth: Awaken! Big city people.
