Jerry Woodrow Burns, 77, of Parkersburg, passed away April 1, 2018, at the Parkersburg Care Center.
He was born August 20, 1940, a son of the late Pearl Duckett and George W. Burns.
He worked at McClinton Cheverolet for 42 years before retiring from the Parkersburg City Garage as a maintenance supervisor after 10 years of service. He was a member of the Parkersburg Masonic Lodge #169 where he was a Jester, a Shriner and a member of the Ben Bay Grotto. He loved PSHS wrestling and at one time served as the President of South wrestling boosters. He enjoyed all sports and loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son Woody Burns (Carol) of Elizabeth, WV; daughter Melinda Baker (Mike) of Belpre, OH; brothers Bob Burns of Bridgeport, WV and John Burns of Parkersburg; grandchildren Tessa Cox, Derreck Shearer, Chase Baker and Connor Baker; great grandchildren Spence Cox, Casen Cox and Hayden Shearer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Fay (Gibbs) Burns and brothers Brian and Kenneth Burns.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the director, nurses, staff and C.N.A.'s at Parkersburg Care Center for their wonderful care.
Services will be 11 AM Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg with Pastor Jerry Sowders officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8 PM. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.LeavittFuneralHome.com
