Frank Carson Caterisono

Frank Carson Caterisono

May 1928 –

Frank Caterisono, age 88, of Parkersburg, West Virginia formerly of Smithers, West Virginia died on March 13, 2017. He was born on May 8, 1928, and was the son of the late Toney and Josephine Aquino Carson. He was also predeceased by his sisters Virginia Ratliff, Katherine Hill, Mary Ann Carson and his brother Gapey Carson.

Frank was born and raised in Smithers and attended Montgomery High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. After High School, Frank joined the Navy in 1946. He completed his service in 1954 and entered West Virginia Tech in the Associate Science Program from which he graduated in 1957. After employment with Carbon Fuel for a short period of time and marriage to Loretta Graham in 1960, Frank returned to West Virginia Tech and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1963.

Following his graduation, he began his teaching career in Parkersburg at Washington Junior High in 1963. Frank taught Shop and Mechanical Drawing classes for twenty-four years until his retirement in 1987. While teaching, Frank continued his education during the summer breaks and received his Master's degree from West Virginia University in 1970.

Frank is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loretta Graham Caterisono, Brother-in-law Harry Graham (Pauline), Sisters-in-law Ethel Simmons (Charles) and Ada Graham.

Frank touched the lives of a great many people in a caring, loving way. In addition to his immediate family, Frank loved and was loved in return by his many nieces and nephews. They all lovingly responded to their "Uncle Frank" and always looked forward to seeing him.

Frank and Loretta have always loved and responded to children and formed a special relationship with the family of their longtime neighbors Mark and Debbie Miracle. Mark and Debbie shared their children, Ashley and Nicolas, with Frank and Loretta to the extent that they were looked at as second set of grandparents.

In teaching, Frank made a tremendous impression on his students. In addition to teaching classroom skills, Frank taught life skills by example. He was described by Tony Butcher, a former student and current neighbor, as stern but fair in what was expected in his classes. The most descriptive term, however, was caring. Frank cared about his students and never gave up on them.

Appreciation is expressed to all the neighbors and friends and to the Hospice employees who have been so helpful during Frank's illness. He will be remembered in the hearts of many.
