Donald M. Patterson, 76, of Walker, WV, died Monday, March 20, 2017, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born in Parkersburg, WV, a son of the late Woodrow and Frankie (Ball) Patterson.
He graduated from PHS in 1960 and attended PCC and Lamar University in Texas for fire training. He retired from GE Plastics, was a member of Vaught Chapel United Methodist Church, and was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a Charter member of the Eastwood Fire Department, where he served as the First Fire Chief and was a member for thirty years. He also served on the Board of Directors for Crossroads United Methodist Camp and was Past Chairman. He helped with the Boy Scout Troop #30 in Elizabeth, WV, and President of the United Methodist Men's Kanawha Charge.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years Eva P. Patterson; two daughters Denise Stull (Rusty) of Williamstown and Lisa Withee (Matthew) of Walker, WV; son Brett Patterson (Beth) currently serving in the United States Army; seven grandchildren Jimi Bower (Megan), Timothy Bower, Kelsey Shepard (Fox), Brady Patterson, Isabella Patterson, Andrea Withee, and Heather Withee; a great grandson expected in May Asher Isaac Shepard; and three sisters Betty Lott of Parkersburg, Augusta "Johnnie" Zehm of Parkersburg, and Rebecca Goodnight of Canonsburg, PA.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother James "Sonny" Franklin Patterson.
Services will be Sunday 2:00 P.M. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastors Jamie Sprague and John Reinhart officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be Saturday 2-8 P.M.
