Athens Sheriff

ATHENS – The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports:

* On Jan. 22, the sheriff’s office responded to a mental subject in distress call at Vore Ridge Road and Salem Road. The subject stated she was thinking about hurting herself and wanted to go get help at the hospital. She also shared that she had a gun with her earlier in the day, but just could not do it. Based on her condition and the threats she made, she was taken to O’Bleness Hospital for an evaluation.

* On Jan. 22, deputies responded to South Eighth Street in Jacksonville for a third-party report of an individual lying on the floor unresponsive. EMS and deputies spoke with the individual, who was alert and coherent.

* On Jan. 22, the sheriff’s office responded to McDonald’s in The Plains for an abandoned vehicle. Employees advised it had been sitting in the parking lot for several days.

* On Jan. 22, deputies were dispatched to East Third Street, The Plains, for a male juvenile runaway. The stepmother stated the juvenile and his father, who was at work, got into an argument over the phone. The stepmother stated the juvenile got a bag and left the residence around 8:30 p.m. The stepmother stated the juvenile didn’t have a cell phone, so deputies weren’t able to contact the juvenile or trace his location. Deputies patrolled the area but had negative contact with the juvenile. The juvenile was entered into LEADS as missing.

* On Jan. 23, at 12:45 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Elliotsville Road and Shaw Road on a report of male subjects in a car attempting to take a road sign that had been knocked over. Dispatch advised at the time of the call the male subjects was attempting to put the sign in their car. Upon police arriving in the area, the car had fled the area heading toward the Athens city limits on Elliotsville Road. Deputies patrolled the area and were not able to locate the vehicle in question. The sign was found on the side of Shaw Road.

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports on Jan. 16:

* On Jan. 15, the sheriff’s office responded to The Plains in reference to a verbal dispute and a vehicle being damaged during the dispute. Units difused the situation and collected information from all involved parties. All parties were separated for the night and advised not to have contact with each other.

* On Jan. 15, deputies were dispatched to Glazier Road in Guysville for a domestic dispute involving a father and son. Deputies arrived and spoke to both involved individuals as well as a witness. All individuals stated that the dispute between the father and son was verbal. No threats of violence occurred. The involved parties agreed to separate for the evening. The son was given a ride into Athens.

ATHENS – The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports on Jan. 15:

* On Jan. 14, Mike Bolin reported someone had entered a rental at 6083 N. Coolville Ridge, Athens, and damaged a couch that was left from a past renter.

* On Jan. 14, the sheriff’s office responded to the Dollar General in The Plains on a complaint of a male subject parked in the fire lane and passed out. Upon arrival the man was not in the vehicle, but contact was made with him and his daughter in Dollar General. Both subjects were impaired and were in no state to safely operate a motor vehicle. A sober driver came and took control of the vehicle and took them both home.

* On Jan. 13, Robin Sutton contacted deputies advising a male she knows only as Anthony had been contacting her recently. Sutton and Anthony used to work at the same place and he recently was let go. On Jan. 12, he called the business and called her an obscene name when she told him the person he wanted to speak with had left for the day. The next day he sent her a message on Facebook harassing her calling her names and saying she would never amount to anything. There was nothing threatening about the message, but as he mentioned her young son she did wish to have the event on file in case of future issues as he is known to have a hot temper. Sutton stated she did not need deputies to make contact with him or her employer but wanted the event recorded; she had also blocked the male from her Facebook page.

* On Jan. 14, the sheriff’s office responded to The Plains to assist emergency medical services with a report of a broken leg; however, personnel and the sheriff’s office have frequented the residence where intoxicated and aggressive subjects are located which is why medical services requested assistance from the sheriff’s office. Upon arrival both agencies worked together to get the man out of the residence and to the hospital to receive medical treatment.

ATHENS – The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports on Jan. 9:

* On Jan. 8, deputies were dispatched on an active alarm call at a residence in Troy Township. While enroute deputies were canceled as it was a false alarm.

* On Jan. 8, deputies were dispatched to the city of Nelsonville to assist Nelsonville police officers with a court-ordered eviction. Deputies arrived and stood by while police and court staff carried out the orders of the eviction.

* On Jan. 8, deputies were dispatched to the area of Ohio 682 regarding a report of someone in a white pickup truck going door to door selling steaks. Contact was made with the driver and three men with him and he showed a West Virginia business licence for the bulk food business he and his wife own, Rutter Bulk Food Sales. His driver’s license and registration were in order and he showed no signs of impairment.

ATHENS – The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports on Jan. 8:

* On Jan. 7, the sheriff’s office and the Athens Major Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop on Alderman Road in Millfield. Upon making contact with the driver and three other passengers in the vehicle, a police dog was deployed for a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle and the dog indicated on the vehicle. Narcotics were found on two of the four subjects in the vehicle. The case is under investigation.

* On Jan. 7, the sheriff’s office responded to 5828 Meadowbrook Road, Apt. 27, in Albany for a verbal dispute. Kayla and Manford Casto had been in a verbal dispute and were curious what their options were. There were no threats of violence or physical violence during the dispute. They advised they had filed for divorce, but nothing had been separated at that time. It was advised the paperwork was only civil in nature and anything violated should be reported to the court. The parties were advised to stay separate within the home and minimize contact to prevent further issues.

* On Jan. 7, Donnie Welsh of 119 Sylvan Way, Marietta, came to the sheriff’s office to report his ex-roommates used his debit card without his authorization. Welsh stated an automatic charge from Direct TV for a monthly bill of $40.34 was charged to his account on Jan. 6. Welsh said when the account was opened in October, his debit card was used with his permission to set up the account in his roommates’ name. Then on Dec. 29, the account was set for automatic payments without his knowledge. Police spoke with both of the roommates and they denied using Welsh’s debit card. Police advised Welsh to make contact with Direct TV to make arrangements to have his name and information removed from the account. It appears the charge was made automatically by Direct TV and no criminal offense occurred.

* On Jan. 8, deputies were dispatched to 3525 Pleasant Hill Road where the caller advised an unknown male was at his home. The caller also advised it appeared as if the male subject had consumed alcohol. While enroute, a single-vehicle accident was located in the area and it was later confirmed the vehicle belonged to the male subject who was identified as William Young. Young and the scene of the accident were turned over to the Ohio State Highway Patrol for processing.

ATHENS – The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports on Jan. 6:

* On Jan. 5, a deputy responded to Walnut Street in Trimble to check on the well-being of a 16-year-old girl. Deputies were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence. A check later in the morning yielded the same result. It was discovered at the time of this report that the original complainant had called back into dispatch and provided an update. He had made contact with the juvenile, all was OK and arrangements to get her to school had been made. No further action was taken.

* On Jan. 6, deputies were dispatched to Chauncey for a verbal dispute. Upon arriving on scene deputies spoke with Julia Douglas and William Francis, who both advised there were no threats of violence or physical violence that took place. This matter is considered closed.

ATHENS – The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports on Jan. 7:

* On Jan. 5, Kentaro Oki came to the sheriff’s office and reported his neighbor has been driving erratically and potentially created a hit and run. Oki advised no crime had been committed and no damages were created, but wanted to report what has happened in case it continued. Oki was advised a report will be taken for record only and if and when a crime was committed, the sheriff’s office would at that time investigate the complaint.

* Kevin Shively came to the sheriff’s office on Dec. 23 and filed a report of a possible theft of tools. On Jan. 6, Shively advised he did not wish to pursue the case any longer.

* On Jan. 6, a woman who identified herself as Cassandra Barton came to the sheriff’s office with a court order requesting help in obtaining a child, Peyton Barton, for the reason of medical purposes. A copy of the court order was obtained and placed in the media file. Officers went to 100 Vanderhoff Road and left a copy of the court order and assisted Barton in obtaining the children. All happened without incident.

* On Jan. 6, deputies responded to Beech Road regarding a third-party report of a domestic dispute between Deborah Riley and Noel Anthony (Taz). When deputies arrived Anthony and Riley were standing in the kitchen and when police asked if there was a dispute that evening Anthony adamantly advised there was no issue, but the female seemed evasive. A deputy went to a back bedroom with Riley and spoke with her while a deputy spoke with Anthony. Anthony continued to repeatedly change his story from no argument, to an argument with Riley earlier in the day, to an argument with a guy who sold him a junk car, back to no argument and then yelling about the junk car outside but no actual argument. When the deputy returned from the back room he asked if Anthony had any thoughts of hurting himself or anyone else and he immediately denied that. Riley stated that Anthony had been making threats such as these and he continued to deny the statement then conceded that he might have said that he could harm or would harm the guy that sold him the junk car and she could have overheard him but he advised he did not mean it. Anthony was arrested for domestic violence and transported to the regional jail.

* On Jan. 6, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office took a report of harassment on behalf of Rick Smith. He advised he had been receiving several calls and messages from Charlene Pitts. He had previously asked her to stop calling under any circumstances, but she has continued to call and leave messages. He asked if we could have a report on file and call her in an effort to stop the contact. Calls were made to the numbers provided with negative contact.

ATHENS – The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports on Dec. 31:

* On Dec. 30, the Ohio State Highway Patrol requested the assistance of the sheriff’s office in locating a vehicle involved in an accident on Ohio13 near Jacksonville. Upon arriving, deputies located the vehicle which had left the roadway and came to rest at the bottom of a large embankment. At that time the scene was turned over to the Highway Patrol.

* On Dec. 30, Kent Felts, Roundhouse Road, New Marshfield, reported a GPS was stolen from his car parked in front of the residence after 8:30 p.m. Dec. 29 when he and his wife returned home. They went to bed around 10 p.m. having heard and seen nothing. At 6 a.m., they noticed the car had been broken into. There was no damage to the car leading them to believe they may have left it unlocked and while the car appeared to have been ransacked the GPS was the only thing missing. Felts did not have information on the GPS such as a serial number, but advised it was a Garmin 4-inch screen GPS black in color stored in a red case and the power cord was in the case.

* On Dec. 30, the sheriff’s office took a report of theft from a motor vehicle from 2630 Mineral Road, New Marshfield. The complainant reported his vehicles were gone through. There was no damage to the vehicle, but had $50 worth of items stolen. He advised there were no other indications of a crime other than the disheveled compartments in the vehicle. He advised this occurred during the morning hours of Dec. 30.

* On Dec. 30, officers were dispatched to 21151 Oakdale Road, Glouster, in reference to a dispute. As the result of an investigation conducted by the officers, Frederick J. Craig Jr., 52, of that address was arrested and charged with domestic violence and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

* On Dec. 30, the sheriff’s office responded to 32 Converse St. in Chauncey at the Cee Dee Mart for a suspicious person. They were advised a man was in the store acting strange and dropped off a sack of needles at the drive thru window. Police made contact with the man who identified himself as Clayton Miller. He stated that he walked from Big Bailey Road and found the bag of needles on the side of the road. He brought them there to properly dispose of them. When asked about his current state he stated that he was on pain medication for his back, but was in good condition to walk to his friend’s residence across the street. The needles were taken and processed as evidence for destruction.

* On Dec. 30, the sheriff’s office was notified two juveniles from Bassett House ran away from the facility. Both juveniles were entered into leads as missing. Both juveniles were placed in Bassett House by Athens County and other local agencies have been notified to be on the lookout. Deputies patrolled the surrounding area with negative contact.
