Fire destroys Parkersburg garage

By Staff Reports 1 min read

PARKERSBURG -- A fire gutted a garage behind a Parkersburg house Monday morning.

The blaze at 1111 Lynn St. was reported at 7:11 a.m., with Parkersburg firefighters on scene in four minutes, Fire Chief Jason Matthews said.

"The garage was fully involved with fire," he said. "It's a total loss."

A cause had not been determined Monday afternoon.

Firefighters initially had difficulty with water pressure from the first truck on scene, so lines were pulled from the second vehicle, Matthews said. There was no delay in attacking the fire, he said.

"We had the fire under control (within) 14 minutes of time of arrival," Matthews said.

Most firefighters had cleared the scene before 8 a.m., he said, though some remained at the location gathering information and investigating until about 9:30 a.m.

The owner was home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Matthews said the building contained equipment like lawnmowers. The owner and a neighbor indicated there had been issues with people trying to get into or stay in the garage, but Matthews said it was not known Monday afternoon whether that might be related to the fire.
