Fire at vacant 13th Street home under investigation

PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 615 13th St. on Tuesday.
The call came in at 12:55 p.m. and fire and rescue were on scene in three minutes. Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews said the house was vacant and on the city's demolition list.
Matthews said a portion of the fire was on the stairs going up to the second floor of the structure but they were still investigating. He also said Parkersburg Police talked to two individuals seen leaving the residence when the fire started. Matthews said he hadn't talked to the police department or detective bureau but would continue to help in any investigation they have.
Matthews said one crew member went to Camden Clark Medical Center to be evaluated for second degree burns on his shoulders but was treated and released, and is doing fine. The crew member was wearing personal protective gear properly but encountered heavy fire on the second floor with the windows being open and the fire free-burning at that point, he said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
