Ohio man arrested on drug trafficking charges

PARKERSBURG — Two men Monday were arrested, one for trafficking narcotics including fentanyl, after a traffic stop by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff said on Tuesday.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Deputy Jeff Kidder accompanied by Maggi, a department police dog, stopped a vehicle in the 1900 block of Blizzard Drive where the driver, a woman, was observed by Kidder to be nervous, Sheriff Steve Stephens said. Kidder also saw two other men in the vehicle acting nervous, the sheriff said.

Sgt. Derek Cross also responded.

For safety, the driver was asked to pull her vehicle off the street and into the Jackson Hewitt Tax Services parking lot, Stephens said.

Maggi was instructed to perform an exterior sniff of the vehicle, to which it gave a positive indication to the presence of narcotics, according to Stephens.

The vehicle was searched and a large quantity of narcotics and an electronic scale were found, Stephens said.

Lorenzo Mikeirst Thomas, 42, 1027 Edison Ave., Hamilton, Ohio, was arrested on the felony charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, Stephens said. Thomas was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and remanded to the regional jail in lieu of $300,000 bond.

Ronald W. Byers, 36, 1609 Pike St., Parkersburg, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for forgery and uttering. He also was arraigned in magistrate court where bond was set at $25,000.

Byers was remanded to the regional jail pending bond.

The female driver was given verbal traffic warnings and released, Stephens said.
