The Arc to host open house at new location

2 min read

PARKERSBURG - The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley will hold an open house and ribbon cutting from 3-6 p.m. Sept. 19 at its new location, 1917 Dudley Ave.

The property at 1915 and 1917 Dudley Ave. and the 20th Street Office Complex were donated to The Arc in 2014 by the PM Co. The Arc Thrift Shop has been housed at the 1915 Dudley Ave. property since 2011.

A grant from the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation provided the funding to paint offices and install new carpet. Volunteers from Recovery Point worked for several months repairing walls, painting and assisting with the move.

The main offices of The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley, Birth to Three Regional Administrative Unit 2 and People First of West Virginia moved to Dudley Avenue at the end of June. Funds previously spent on rent now support services and programs to people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities, officials said.

Also, the rent paid by LJ Hair Design and Imaging, Primerica and RR Donnelly and Sons provides income for The Arc for building maintenance and utility fees, officials said.

"We are so fortunate to live in the Mid-Ohio Valley," Liz Ford, executive director of The Arc, said. "With the generous donation of the building by the PM Co., a grant from the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation for supplies and carpet, and the hard work of the wonderful volunteers from Recovery Point we were able to bring this dream to fruition."

The ribbon cutting will include representatives from The Arc, PM Co., Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley, local dignitaries, collaborating agencies and board members.

The Arc also will hold its Key to the Community Dinner and Silent Auction 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 17 to support its programs and services. For more information or to donate to The Arc contact Ford at 304-422-3151 ext. 106 or by email at liz.ford@thearcmmov.org.

Peter V. Berns, CEO of The Arc of the United States, is scheduled to attend.

Sponsorships are available: Platinum, $1,000; Gold, $750; Silver, $500; Bronze, $250. Individual tickets are $50 and a table for eight is $350.
