WALKER -- A fire at 803 Jericho Road destroyed a home Thursday morning, taking several hours for crews to fully extinguish the blaze.
Deerwalk Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene around 11:10 a.m. Thursday. Officials said the two-story residence was already fully involved.
"Crews performed fire suppression operations to gain control of the fire," Deerwalk VFD said in a press release Thursday afternoon. Firefighters "remained on scene for approximately four hours performing overhaul operations to ensure that the fire was completely out."
No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured, according to the release. No firefighters were injured while extinguishing the fire.
Deerwalk was assisted by Eastwood, Waverly and Lubeck volunteer fire departments. The American Red Cross also responded to assist the family. No further details on the residents were available.
According to the release, the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and has been handed over to the Wood County Fire Investigation Team.
