ATHENS, Ohio -- In a decision filed June 21, the Fourth District Court of Appeals of Ohio affirmed the conviction of aggravated murder against William David Blair, 56, of Athens, Ohio.
Blair was found guilty of aggravated murder, an unspecified felony, and burglary, a felony of the second degree, by a jury on July 30, 2017.
On Aug. 2, 2018, Athens County Common Pleas Court Judge Patrick Lang sentenced Blair to life without parole on the aggravated murder, consecutively to eight years on the burglary, in the state penal system.
Athens County Prosecutor Keller J. Blackburn, in Tuesday's press release, said, "On June 16, 2017, Blair, while committing a burglary at the residence of Mary Robinson, 71, at 40 Mill St. in Chauncey, Ohio, did cause her death by strangling her."
Blackburn informed the court during the argued sentencing that Blair's conduct took the life of a woman that served her community helping others.
Blackburn said Blair's actions weren't necessary, and the death did not have to happen.
Blair is incarcerated in the Lebanon Correctional Institution in Lebanon, Ohio.
