MARIETTA -- Megan Ross of Parkersburg and Hannah Miller of Marietta have been inducted into the music honorary Mu Psi Kappa in the Marietta College chapter from the Edward E. MacTaggart Department of Music.
Ross, class of 2019, is a vocal performance student and Miller, class of 2021, is a music therapy student. Also inducted was physics student Ryan McGuinness of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Ross, a student of Amy Yekel, is a soprano and has performed in the college Concert Choir and Opera Workshop. Miller, also a student of Yekel, is a soprano and a member of the Concert Choir, the Women's Choir, the Presbyterian Church Choir and a leadership student at Marietta College.
"Those chosen for initiation into the music honor society are evaluated by the full-time music faculty on a set of 10 criteria," said Marshall Kimball, Chairman of the Music Department.
In other honorings, 12 students received Campus Involvement & Leadership Awards from the Office of Student Life.
Among them was James Taylor of St. Marys, who received an Excellence in Tutoring Award as a member of Delta Tau Delta. Taylor is majoring in Petroleum Engineering and is a graduate of St. Marys High School.
Kelsey Hall of Reno received Outstanding New Resident Assistant of the Year as a member of First Year Complex. Hall is majoring in Special Education/Elementary Dual Preparation and is a graduate of Marietta High School.
Derek Allen Krieg of New Matamoras received Michael J. Conte Excellence in Leadership as a member of McDonough Leadership Program. Krieg is majoring in Petroleum Engineering and is a graduate of Ohio Virtual Academy.
The college Department of Business and Economics honored students with scholarships.
Jordan Taylor of Waterford received the Bob Duggan '59 Distinguished Scholarship. Taylor is majoring in Accounting and is a graduate of Waterford High School.
The Bob Duggan '59 Distinguished Scholarship was established in 2005 in memory of Robert D. Duggan, Class of 1959, by his wife, Omah C. Duggan, son, Michael P. Duggan, Class of 1980, and daughter-in-law, Joanne Edwards Duggan, Class of 1981. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students majoring in the Department of Business & Economics, who demonstrate financial need, with preference given to students with a grade point average of at least 3.0 or its equivalent.
Cameron Cantley of Vincent received the Bert T. Glaze Scholarship. Cantley is majoring in accounting and is a graduate of Warren High School.
The Bert T. Glaze Scholarship was established in 2000 to recognize pre-professional achievement by a rising junior or senior student majoring in the Department of Business & Economics. The recipient(s) must have a minimum of a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have demonstrated the commitment to the business field within and outside the classroom.
