WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport will receive $8 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation to rehabilitate its runway.
The funding announcement was made this afternoon in a joint release from U.S. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., both of whom are members of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Tri-State Airport in Huntington will receive $10 million in funding for runway improvements.
Local Airport Manager Glen Kelly said he understands the funding will require no local match, unlike the Airport Improvement Program money that would have been used otherwise. The airport originally sought $18 million to improve both the runway and the lighting system, but Kelly said the $8 million will cover the runway, which is the most pressing need.
