PARKERSBURG — William Travis Schoonover, 40, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the second-degree murder of a 16-month-old boy.
Wood County Circuit Court Judge Robert Waters pronounced the sentence for the July 2017 death of Evan Kaije Wright, the son of Schoonover’s then-girlfriend. The boy was left in his care. Schoonover reportedly told police he shook the boy because he would not hold still during a diaper change.
Citing the severity of the child’s injuries and a perceived lack of remorse, Waters handed down the maximum sentence and recommended Schoonover not be granted parole.
