Parkersburg South students win ‘Proof of Concept’ stage of Junior PioBiz contest

MARIETTA -- Two students at Parkersburg South High School placed first in the second round of the Marietta College Junior PioBiz competition held April 4 at the college in the Timothy O. Cooper Auditorium.

In Round 2, the Proof of Concept round, Parkersburg South students William Lemon and Seven Parr won three free Marietta College 3-credit-hour courses valued at $4,275 and a $200 prize for their Nail Anchor project.

Marietta High School's Kayla Floyd finished second with Foster Fix and received two free Marietta College 3-credit-hour courses valued at $2,850 and a $150 prize.

Fellow Marietta High Tiger Rose Sandlin finished third with Spot on the Dot Veterinary. She received one free Marietta College 3-credit-hour course valued at $1,425 and a $50 prize.

A Parkersburg South team of Jimmy Carson and Josh Renfro came in fourth place.

The judges in the round were Lori Hart, relationship banker at Huntington National Bank; Micalyn Harris, president/CEO, U.S. division of ELPRO; and David Williams, co-founder, Managers Resource Group Inc.

Junior PioBiz is a two-round business start-up competition open to all high school students in the Mid-Ohio Valley from Wood, Wirt, Tyler, Roane, Pleasants, Ritchie, Jackson, Calhoun, Washington, Noble, Monroe, Morgan, Athens, Meigs and Gallia counties. The competition is co-sponsored by Marietta Community Foundation and Marietta College.
